I’ve noticed recently there’s been a pep in the steps of my classmates. Maybe it’s the spring weather, or the blooming flowers, but I have a feeling it’s more than that. It’s the not so distant completion of our master’s program coursework and dietetic rotations that have made even the pessimistic turn optimistic. We all recognize the grueling days are almost over and are excited for what’s to come. As I was having a conversation of the like with a classmate today, I asked her, “what do you think you will do with yourself when you don’t have an article review to complete or test to study for?”. Her response to me was, “I don’t know, but I’m really excited to see what it feels like”. Juggling 10 things at once has become such second nature, it seems strange to consider how I will feel when it is over.
I’ve had rotation’s I’ve loved (pretty much anything community or outpatient) and some I have less-than-loved (food service), but I will carry all these experiences with me as I start my career. In every situation, there is something to be learned. For now, I’m just thankful for wonderful professors, preceptors (it’s preceptor appreciation month BTW) and program directors who have guided me through this process. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and although I haven’t yet figured out what’s on the other side of the light, I’m very excited to figure it out.
