Descriptions of GADA Board of positions / committees

Elected Positions

Executive Committee Consists of 6 elected members - President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Treasurer, Secretary,
and Nominating Chair

Eligibility:  Nominees for  Executive Board positions must be active members of the American Dietetic Association
and have at least 2 years experience on the GADA Board in a voting or non-voting position.

  • President-Elect:  serve as program chair for the membership meetings for 1 year and succeeds to the office of the
    President at the end of his/her term without further election.  more

  • President:  serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Association for 1 year and succeeds to the office of Immediate
    Past President at the end of his/her term without further election.  more

  • Immediate Past President:  serve as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and advisor to the Board of Directors
    for 1 year.  more

  • Secretary:  term of office is 2 years; responsible for meeting minutes, records and files of the Association.  more

  • Treasurer:  serve as Chief Financial Officer of the Association for 2 years.  more

Nominating Committee Consists of 3 elected members that serve for 1 year; responsibilities include:

  • select qualified candidates for elected positions of the Association and prepare official ballot for voting GADA members

  • recommend GADA nominations for GDA awards of Recognized Young Dietitian, Outstanding Dietitian, Emerging Dietitian,
    District Distinguished Service Award, Media Award, and Legislator award

  • attend quarterly board meetings and membership meetings

Eligibility:  Nominees must be active members of the GADA

Non-Elected Positions.  Any current GADA member in good standing may participate in a non-elected position. 
Preferred commitment is 2 consecutive years to allow for mentoring of new committee members.

Communications Committee

  • Public Affairs - coordinates PR/media activities and serves as the main contact for requests for RD experts; consults with
    State Media Representatives and ADA Spokespersons; creates/maintains relationships with other Atlanta area organizations,
    helps
    coordinate National Nutrition Month campaign; attends quarterly board meetings as needed

  • Newsletter - publishes quarterly newsletter; attends quarterly board meetings as needed 

  • Webmaster - maintains the Association web site; serves as liaison between GADA board and the web group administrator;
    prepares and submits a budget per Finance Committee policy; works on initiatives of the Strategic Plan related to the website;
    attends quarterly board meetings as needed

  • Jobline Coordinator - organizes JobNet activities such as job postings, invoicing, and inquiries;  attends quarterly board
    meetings as needed 

  • Publications - publishes Membership Directory; attends quarterly board meetings as needed

Government Affairs Committee - communicates with GDA legislative committee regarding campaign activities for MNT legislation;
keeps GADA members abreast of current issues affecting the profession and practice; attends quarterly board meetings and
membership meetings.

Membership Committee - welcomes new members and introduces them at membership meetings; organizes membership socials
(held at least twice per year); conducts annual membership survey, maintains student section of the Association web site; attends
quarterly board meetings and membership meetings.

National Nutrition Month (NNM) Committee - recruits and organizes volunteers for NNM activities; provides members with
resources to plan NNM events throughout the district; supports Public Affairs Committee in developing a PR plan to promote
RDs as the food and nutrition experts; attends quarterly board meetings and membership meetings.

Other Board Representatives

  • Policies/Procedures/Bylaws - annually reviews the GADA Policies and Procedures Manual and makes necessary
    recommendations to the Board of Directors for changes; serves as a resource to the Board of Directors on provisions
    of the bylaws; attends quarterly board meetings and membership meetings.

  • Student Member Liaison - identifies and responds to areas of concern related to student members, promotes the role
    of student members in dietetic-related areas, encourages participation of students in ADA and GDA, maintains regular
    communication with dietetic program directors and students/interns; maintains student section of the Association website;
    attends quarterly board meetings and membership meetings.

  • State Professional Recruitment Coordinator (SPRC) - promotes dietetics careers by attending career fairs at local
    schools, submitting short articles to school newspapers, and the like; develops and enhances mentoring programs to assure
    that diverse qualified students remain within the profession; attends quarterly board meetings and membership meetings.
